As part of the Medium Format Fine Art Prize the Loupe Awards in conjunction with ACMP will be holding a fashion photography workshop on Friday the 9th March 2012.

Attendees will divided into 3 groups at the beginning of the day. These groups will each spend 1.5 hours learning at a sub workshop rotating off to the next over the course of the day. At the end of the day after all groups have experienced all 3 sub workshops a question session and hands on guided shooting experience will occur.

Robert Earp | Shooting Fashion

THE SESSION | Robert will demonstrate the process of shooting a model for an editorial fashion spread with a stylist on hand to make sure that the customer "clothing label" achieves the best looks and showcases their clothing range. Because at the end of the day as a fashion photographer you are shooting to sell their brand.
    What are you likely to get out of this session?

  • concerns and considerations of the client, working with the client
  • Lighting for garment detail and how this can effect the final reproduction


Peter Collie | Shooting Beauty

Peter was born in England and has lived, studied and worked in Europe, America and now for over 15 years has been based in Sydney Australia where his commercial work has been mostly for fashion, beauty and music clients. His work has appeared in magazines such as Photo, American Photo, Black and White, West East, New York magazine, Vogue and many more. www.petercollie.com



THE SESSION | Peter will discuss the steps involved in creating a beautiful, engaging and natural feeling beauty shot even if the look is quite extreme. We will go through casting, makeup and hair styling, lighting, posing and capture. I try to shoot as clean a shot as possible and keep retouching minimal both to save labour but also there is a move now against un-natural post production created images.
    What are you likely to get out of this session?
  • the session will start with makeup done to save time but Peter will discuss what has been done and why
  • during the session Peter will do a softly lit natural version, a glamourous version with stronger more contrasty light and a very strong version
  • makeup will be adjusted to suit the different lighting as we go along
  • the photographs will appear on screen as we shoot, adjustments will be made using the software and the result will already be close to the finished result
  • Peter will discuss how the principles at work in each setup can be used in different situations both in studio and outdoors


Lisa Saad | Shooting Accessories

Lisa is a commercial, magazine and corporate photographer with 23 years of experience shooting for clients such as Myer, Target, Temptation, Australis, Covergirl as well as a regular shooter for New Idea, Woman's Day, That's Life and Men's Health. www.lisasaadphotography.com.au



THE SESSION | Lisa will demonstrate the process of shooting table top still life for reproduction on a white background for then insertion into a magazine spread or brochure layout. Accessories range from handbags, shoes, scarves, watches, jewellery to make-up and hair products. Anything that you add to enhance the look of an outfit.
    What are you likely to get out of this session?
  • An insight into shooting fashion accessories on white for contour or deep etch
  • shooting angles to show the best out of the product
  • how to design the lighting around the product depending on the placement of the product in the layout
  • concerns, considerations and working with the client and or brand manager
  • preparing files for post production and matching the colour of the product, whose job is it? Why is this important?
